چکیده

Objective: to determine the efficacy of non-selective beta-blockers (NSBBs) in primary prevention bleeding esophageal varices and assess their impact on survival patients with ascites enrolled liver transplant waiting list (LTWL). Materials methods . We carried out a retrospective comparative study cirrhotic severe without before enrollment LTWL. Primary prophylaxis variceal included use NSBBs (n = 97, group 1). These drugs were not used other 91, 2). Results There no significant differences between groups terms clinical, laboratory demographic parameters, MELD scores Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) classes for cirrhosis. Patient had respect incidence medium- large-sized ascites. Bleeding was significantly lower than non-NSBBs (52.6% 95.6%, respectively, p 0.0001). Conclusion constitute an efficacious therapy bleeding, thereby saving life preventing delisting from

Meta-analysis: beta-blockers versus banding ligation for primary prophylaxis of esophageal variceal bleeding.

AIM To perform an updated meta-analysis comparing β-blockers (BB) with endoscopic variceal banding ligation (EVBL) in the primary prophylaxis of esophageal variceal bleeding. MATERIAL AND METHODS Randomized controlled trials were identified through electronic databases, article reference lists and conference proceedings. Analysis was performed using both fixed-effect and random-effect models....

Role of endoscopy in primary prophylaxis for esophageal variceal bleeding.

Cirrhosis is the leading cause of portal hypertension in the Western world. From a clinical standpoint, the most significant consequence of portal hypertension is the development of esophageal varices. Despite the many advances in the management of variceal bleeding, it remains a life-threatening complication of portal hypertension. Primary prophylaxis to prevent the first bleeding episode in p...

Cost-effectiveness analysis of variceal ligation vs. beta-blockers for primary prevention of variceal bleeding.

Although both beta-blockade (BB) and endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) are used for primary prevention of variceal bleeding (VB) in patients with cirrhosis with moderate to large esophageal varices (EVs), the more cost-effective option is uncertain. We created a Markov decision model to compare BB and EVL in such patients, examining both cost-effectiveness (cost per life year [LY]) and cost-ut...

The comparison of esophageal variceal ligation plus propranolol versus propranolol alone for the primary prophylaxis of esophageal variceal bleeding

BACKGROUND/AIMS To investigate the efficacy and longterm outcome of esophageal variceal ligation (EVL) plus propranolol in comparison with propranolol alone for the primary prophylaxis of esophageal variceal bleeding. METHODS A total of 504 patients were retrospectively enrolled in this study. 330 patients were in propranolol group (Gr1) and 174 patients were in EVL plus propranolol group (Gr...

Endoscopic band ligation versus propranolol for the primary prophylaxis of variceal bleeding in cirrhotic patients with high risk esophageal varices.

BACKGROUND Gastroesophageal variceal bleeding is a common complication of portal hypertension. Current guidelines recommend thorn-blockers for primary prophylaxis. However, evidence suggests that endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) reduce bleeding episodes. AIMS To compare endoscopic EVL with propranolol (PPL) for primary prophylaxis of variceal bleeding. METHODS We conducted a randomized co...
